Antecedents and Consequences of Political Ideology
How do dispositional and individual differences constructs (trait personality, trait disgust) work together with motivational constructs (specific goal systems) to influence political ideology? Our work extends the literature on the personality predictors of political ideology by adopting an lower-level analysis of Big Five personality traits. As well, we examine the underlying processes (i.e., specific goals and motivations) that could help explain the links between personality and political ideology. We also aim to better understand how personality aspects interact with other individual differences variables (e.g., trait disgust) to shape political ideology and behaviours associated with such ideologies (such as moral judgments). Furthermore, we also examine how
ideological differences impact important social outcomes, e.g., political engagement, attitudes toward and participation in collective action, consumer choices, etc.
